News of the UPSC: The Official English Website of the Upsc Launched & the Upsc Ranked as a World-Class Four-Star Society
The year 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the year of starting a new journey of building a comprehensive socialist modern country. On the occasion of the 5th “National Science and Technology Workers’ Day,” the English website of the Urban Planning Society of China (UPSC) was officially launched on May 30, 2021.
The English website of the UPSC (http://en.planning.org.cn), sponsored by the UPSC, is the only English website in the field of urban planning in China that is open to the world. It adheres to the vision of building a human community together, and builds a bridge of communication and connection with the world in the field of urban planning. The establishment of the English website of the UPSC will contribute to the construction of a “home for scientists” through the integration of online and offline interaction. Closely combined with the theme of the “Year of Open Development” of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the website will vigorously promote the open exchange of scientific and technological talents, open cooperation in scientific and technological innovation, and actively integrate into the global innovation development pattern. Chinese and foreign scientists will open up channels of communication and promote the establishment of an open, trusting, and united science and technology community.
In addition, on Jul. 26, 2021, the 23rd Annual Conference of the CAST World Forum on the Development and Governance of Scientific and Technological Societies was held in Beijing. The forum released the global scientific and technological society research report: “Evaluation of World-Class Scientific and Technological Societies (2021) – Opportunities and Challenges” (hereinafter referred to as the “Society Evaluation Report”), and awarded a number of “open and cooperative brand creation societies.” The Society Evaluation Report is a research result of the evaluation of world-class science and technology societies
supported by CAST. A team of experts from the Chinese Society for Science and Technology Policy and Xi’an Jiaotong University conducted a comprehensive evaluation of 1,100 societies in 38 major countries around the world, and evaluated 50 world-class five-star societies and 150 four-star societies. The assessment ranked world-class societies in all aspects in terms of four dimensions, including organizational strength, cohesiveness, influence and leadership of science and technology societies and specific indicators, such as the number of society members, revenue, number of journals, and number of followers on social media platforms. The UPSC is one of the two cross-disciplinary societies rated with four stars or more, and has the potential to be among the top tier in terms of decision support and social care. In addition, the UPSC is one of the three Chinese societies on the list of “Top 50 World Class Scientific Societies in Social Sciences Intersection in 2021.” The UPSC also has a significant advantage in the number of social media followers, ranking among the top 50 in the world and first among similar societies.
