China City Planning Review Attends 2011 Annual Conference of World Society for Ekistics
From Oct. 13 to Oct. 16, 2011, Dr. LIU Jian, Director of Editorial Department of China City Planning Review and Associate Professor of School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, attended 2011Aannual Conference of World Society for Ekistics (WSE) held in Athens, Greece, where Dr. LIU briefly introduced the development of the Sciences of Human Settlements in China. The concept of “Sciences of Human Settlements” was first proposed by Mr. WU Liangyong, Professor of School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, in 1993, which has made great achievements in both theoretical and practical fields with the promotion of Professor WU in combination with the rapid development of urban-rural construction of China since the reform and opening-up to the outside world. Currently, it has been generally recognized by the society including decision-makers and academic field, with a basic establishment of the theory and methods with unique Chinese features. The active exploration and the remarkable achievements that the Chinese scholars, represented by Professor WU Liangyong, have made in line with the urban-rural construction practice in China attracted the attention and aroused the great interests of the conference participants.
