13th IACP Held, CCPR Organizes Seminar on “Belt & Road”
During Jun. 14 – 16, 2019, the 13th IACP (International Association for China Planning) Conference was held in Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, China. The theme of the conference was “Sharing Cities: Challenges and Responses to New Urban Planning.” Shen Zhongwei, Party Secretary of School of Architecture and Design, Southwest Jiaotong University hosted the opening ceremony. Yao Faming, Vice President of Southwest Jiaotong University, Qiu Jian, Deputy Director of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department of Sichuan Province, Du Chunlan, Dean of Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, Chongqing University, et al., addressed at the ceremony. At the morning of Jun. 15 , Prof. Wu Zhiqiang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Prof. Xiao Dawei, School of Architecture of South China University of Technology, Prof. Sun Yimin, Dean of School of Architecture of South China University of Technology, and Piper Gaubatz, Professor and Geography Program Head, University of Massachusetts delivered keynote speeches respectively, who introduced how to promote people’s sense of gaining and happiness through the concept of “sharing” in the urban planning. On the six sub-forums, scholars, planners, engineers, and officers from all over the world joined discussion on topics such as development of “Belt & Road,” construction of cities in western China, transport infrastructures, urban land use, urban and rural coordinated development, historic and cultural protection, public policy management, ecological environment protection, housing and community development, inclusive city, smart city, regional industrial economy, urban design strategy, urban planning education, etc.
On the afternoon of Jun. 15, the parallel session of “Belt & Road” of the conference was organized by the editorial department of China City Planning Review (CCPR). Liang Sisi, Associate Professor of School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, and Editor of CCPR, hosted the session. Prof. Michele Bonino, Politecnico di Torino, delivered his keynote speech titled “The Belt and Road Initiative in the Mirror” that analyzed the impact of the “Belt & Road Initiative” from a global perspective; Wang Jianzhu, of the China Merchants Shekou Industrial Zone Holdings Co., Ltd. (CMSK), made a speech on the “Shekou Model on the Belt and Road,” using specific cases to illustrate the implementation of the “Belt & Road”; and Prof. Wang Xingping, School of Architecture, Southeast University gave a speech of “Industrial City Development & Planning in the Middle East Under the Background of ‘Belt and Road Initiative’” which analyzed the development of industrial cities in Middle East. And many participants actively shared their research results in the field such as the development path, the transport transition and regional development, and the infrastructure construction and economic development pattern under the background of “Belt & Road Initiative.” At the end of the session, Prof. Liu Jian, Vice Dean of School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, and Executive Editor-in-Chief of CCPR delivered a concluding remark.
