Sino-French Seminar on “Meeting the New Challenge of Spatial Planning” Held
On Oct. 13, 2019, the Sino-French Seminar on “Meeting the New Challenge of Spatial Planning” was jointly held by the Department of Urban Planning & Design, School of Architecture, Tsinghua University and the Cultural and Educational Cooperation Section, French Embassy – French Cultural Center in Beijing at the Jackson Wong Lecture Hall of the School of Architecture at Tsinghua University. China City Planning Review (CCPR) participated in the seminar as media support. The seminar was hosted by Prof. Liu Jian, Vice Dean of the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University and Managing Chief Editor of CCPR. Prof. Zhuang Weimin, Dean of School of Architecture, Tsinghua University; Mr. Jean-François Doulet, Commissioner of Higher Education and Humanity & Social Sciences, the Cultural and Educational Cooperation Section, French Embassy and Editorial Board Member of CCPR; Prof. Yin Zhi, Vice President of Urban Planning Society of China, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. About 100 experts, scholars, and professionals from 13 French colleges and 13 Chinese colleges and 3 planning and design institutes attended the seminar.
The seminar was divided into four sessions: “New Urban Development Strategy,” “New Spatial Planning Policy,” “New Exploration on Urban Planning,” and “New Talents Cultivation Pattern,” which were respectively hosted by Prof. Tan Zongbo, Department of Urban Planning, Tsinghua University; Prof. Ariane Dupont, Université de Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne); Prof. Bian Lanchun, Department of Urban Planning, Tsinghua University; and Jérémy Cheval, Coordinator of Education Department, City College, University of Lyon. Distinguished experts and scholars in the field including Mr. Shi Weiliang, Chief Planner, Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources; Prof. Yin Zhi, Prof. Zhang Yue, Prof. Wu Tinghai, Prof. Zhou Wensheng, Department of Urban Planning, Tsinghua University; Mr. Du Liqun, Vice President, Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning & Design; Ms. Zheng Xiaojin, Vice President, Beijing Tsinghua Tongheng Urban Planning & Design Institute; Mr. Eric Huybrechts, Director of International Affairs, Institute of Territory Management & Urban Planning of Paris Region; Mr. Simon Teyssou, Dean, National College of Architecture of Clermont Ferrand; Prof. Céline Burger, School of Territory Management, Environment, Urban Planning, Universite de Reims; Prof. Laurent Coudroy de Lille, Paris School of Urban Planning; Prof. Oliver Chadoin, Bordeaux National Institute of Architecture & Landscape Design, et al., delivered excellent speeches on the topics mentioned above. In addition, there was a “Round Table of 3 + 3 Chinese & French Guests” at the end of each session, in which experts and scholars from China and France further shared their views and discussed with each other on the topics, before answering questions from the audience.
At the end of the seminar, Mr. Jean-François Doulet and Prof. Liu Jian expressed their appreciation to all the guests attending the seminar, and a common expectation of deepening cooperation and communication by both sides in the fields of architecture, planning, and landscape through such kind of events in the future.
