Annual Meeting of the Academic Committee on Foreign Urban Planning of UPSC Held
On Aug. 3, 2020, the 2020 Annual Meeting of the Academic Committee on Foreign Urban Planning of the Urban Planning Society of China (UPSC) was successfully held by means of live webcast. The theme of the annual meeting was “Territorial Space Development and Governance in the Capital and Metropolitan Circle under Global Perspective,” which was hosted by the Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning and Design. An audience of over 600 logged in and attended the meeting. Mr. Shi Nan, Executive Vice President of UPSC, joined the meeting to congratulate the successful convening of the meeting, and announced the renewal of the Academic Committee on Foreign Urban Planning on behalf of UPSC. Mr. Fang Yu, President of the Shenzhen Branch of the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design, presided over the keynote speeches in the morning. Mr. Zhao Min, Professor of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University, Mr. Shi Weiliang, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources, and Mr. Zheng Degao, Vice President of the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design, shared their views through keynote reports on the “Distinction of Concepts and Application of City Cluster, Metropolitan Circle and Metropolitan Area” and “Reflections on Cooperation Between Shenzhen and Hong Kong From the Perspective of the Metropolitan Circle.” Jurgen Rosemann, Emeritus Professor at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, and Hyung Min Kim, Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne’s School of Architecture and Planning, also shared their experiences of Randstad and Melbourne’s metropolitan circle development through the video, titled “From City Network to Network City” and “Land Value Capture and Infrastructure” respectively, followed by summit dialogues in which guests from Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland shared their views. Mr. Li Zhigang, Dean of the School of Urban Design, Wuhan University, moderated the three sessions in the afternoon, while Ms. Liu Jian, Vice Dean of the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, Mr. Shen Lei, Executive Vice President of China Eco-City Academy, Ms. Zhao Yingxue, Deputy Chief Planner of the Shenzhen Branch of the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design, and Prof. Wang Xingping of Southeast University made introductory speeches. The authors of the five outstanding papers selected through conference submissions also presented their research results. Mr. Tan Zongbo, Professor of the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, and Chairman of the Academic Committee of Foreign Urban Planning, pointed out in the conference summary that the unexpected epidemic has brought new challenges for international academic exchange, and it is more necessary for Academic Committee of Foreign Urban Planning to face a long-term proposition of academic exchange between Chinese and foreign planning fields, to make a good platform, build a network, highlight the academic study, serve the society, and play a more active role.
